We have a new name! “Why?!” you might ask.
In order to answer the question, I would like to take you back . . . back nine years ago to a casual conversation that was had between one of FRC’s former pastors (Jon Brown), myself (Janelle Barton), and Beth Saxton (a former military family that was stationed here). I had toyed around with the idea of a preschool but didn’t know how and when to approach the subject. Beth casually mentioned that our church should start a Mother’s Day Out program . . . she was familiar with it, but we were not. She wanted me start it and she would help. With that, I ran with it, did the research and presented it to our Consistory Board!
Our first year was in the fall of 2008. We opened one day a week with three classes and 22 kids! Fast forward to this 2016-17 school year. We have 70+ children, four classes and run the program five days a week! We have seen kids come, leave and return, and their siblings follow! We have shared the ups and downs of life with many families and have walked alongside of them!
This fall will be our tenth year! Our program continues to grow as we strive to provide the Oak Harbor community with a loving, Christian preschool environment! Our program has a wonderful reputation, but we feel that our name has come with some limitations. We want our community and our church family to see the preschool not as something separate from the church but part of our church. We want to be seen as yet another outreach of FRC to Oak Harbor! For those families that are a part of our school and/or potential families – we are more than just a Mother’s Day Out program. We have grown our program as a reputable preschool.
I am continually in awe of God’s faithfulness. It has been a blessing to be a part of the program and the staff that we have. I can not wait to see what God has in store for FRC KIDZ Preschool!
I love our church family!
